Spence Sensei - 40 years as a Dan Grade
The Lancashire Aikikai will in September be celebrating our Head of Association, Bob Spence, holding a dan grade for 40 years.
Bob Spence was graded in August 1971 by Chiba Sensei and will be known to many through his work since 1991 as a BAB Coach Tutor as he has tutored many coaching courses. Mr Spence started Aikido with the Chorley Budo Club in 1968 under Marian Mucha. The Club at that time was part of the Aikikai of Great Britain and from there as the Chorley Budo Club the Lancashire Aikikai grew. Mr Spence succeeded Mr Mucha, who passed away in 1998, to become the second Principal and Head of the Lancashire Aikikai. He has been taught on courses and influenced by many teachers including Tada, Sekiya, Kitaura, Kenshiro Abbe, Nakazona, Tamuru and Chiba Sensei.
His background in martial arts started before 1968 some five years earlier with Karate and he has also studied Judo and Kung-Fu (White Cloud).
The Lancashire Aikikai is holding a course on the afternoon of Saturday 10th September 2011. It will be free to all comers to enable those that know Mr Spence can join him to celebrate on the day. We are also proposing to hold a celebratory meal, including partners after the course. (See main page)
