An Extra-ordinary General Meeting will be held after the course on 14th June to pass on information regarding BAB and MAC. As well as deciding on various matters arising; certain information regarding the licence scheme is set out elsewhere in this Newsletter. It was interesting to note that no other Clubs other than a handful from Chorley could find their way to Hazel Grove course last April. The general courses are also lacking attendance from members, one must remember one never stops learning in this Art. If you do progression stops; learning from our Sensei is most important as we al l have a lot to learn. So please travel to gain greater understanding. Taken from Saito "What should be done when your opponent grasps your wrist in a "hold" pattern? Never mind the area grasped as if nothing has happened. Relax your shoulders and charge your fingertips with centralised energy. Don't attempt to move the grasped wrist, move only your movable parts and align your posture in such a way that your opponent is thrown of off balance and is subject to any of the techniques you wish to apply. It requires a considerably advanced degree of training to stay aloof and unaffected when your wrist is grasped. For instance , you will obviously find it much more difficult to remain completely self possessed when you are sitting in Zen meditation and somebody tries to push you than when you can be left undisturbed. AIKIDO trainees are e therefore required to devote themselves wholeheartedly to their training and attain this self?possessed stage of the art. "Nothing great in Aikido was ever achieved without enthusiasm and humility." The meeting covered setting up a Coaching Scheme that would fulfil the requirements of the Martial Arts Commission. 'The syllabus is very comprehensive and will be open to a certain number of our teachers from our Association. The first session will be in Watford on the afternoon of 12th September (this clashes with our weekend of courses). The first topic will be prevention and rehabilitation
of injuries run by the National Coaching The other areas of study are : a. Understanding and improving skill /developing
flexibility. The first topic and a.) to d.) are NCF courses items e.) to g.) are run by BAB probably as discussion groups. To obtain the coaching award a first aid certificate is also required. These meetings will normally follow the BAB meeting in the morning. One of the conditions of being a member of the BAB and MAC is that licences are issued, to all practitioners' not just instructors. The licences provide insurance cover detail is of which are provided beneath and in the next column. PUBLIC LIABILITY including the liability of one member towards another for single accident indemnity limit of £250,000. Weekly: the benefits are payable BUT the first 2 weeks are excluded. There are also exclusions to the extent of pre-existing conditions, self inflected injuries, and any period certified by a Doctor. Claims must made within 14 days on an approved form to the Insurance Brokers. The form must show current licence number be signed by the instructor and medical certificates should be included. Benefits is normally paid at the end of the period of disability. This means that if student pays the money for a licence that fact and money must be passed, be passed to the Licence officer, before he makes the normal end of the month return, to MAC. Obviously a breakdown in passing the money and information in goodtime will mean that the student's claim, if one is made, could be seriously jeopardised. Only claims resulting from or the legitimate practice of an approved martial art are considered. Other policies are available including Professional Indemnity for our instructors and dental insurance obviously at extra cost. The information needed for a licence is the person's name and addresses The information given here is given in the best of faith . Full details are obtainable from the Insurers, thus no warranty is given to the accuracy of the information, which is only intended to be a brief summary. PERSONAL ACCIDENT
