Mucha Sensei
- Our Founder and Principal, Mr Marian Mucha, died on 12
December 1998, after a short illness. He was 79, and ran the
Aikikai, teaching the main courses and taking senior gradings, until
the spring of 1998 when he was taken ill.
-
- While he was ill, Mr Mucha expressed a wish that
tile nextnewsletter should convey his thanks to all those who
had expressed concern, and wished him well.
-
- Members of the Aikikai miss him very greatly, and
we extend our sympathy to Mrs Mucha, and to his children, grandchildren,
and other family members.
-
- Our Principal and Chief Instructor is now Mr Bob
Spence, 6th Dan. Mr Spence will be teaching the quarterly courses, and
also arranging regular visits to all of the clubs in the Aikikai.
Dates for the later part of 1999 can he found in this newsletter.

- Grading
-
- Dan Grading, and sometimes Ist Kyu grading, will
be carried out on courses. Lower grades will normally be awarded in
clubs, according to the standard syllabus and grading requirements.
3rd Dan teachers are authorised to grade up to Ist Kyu, 2nd Dan up to
2nd Kyu, and Ist Dan up to 3rd Kyu. Attendance on courses continues
to be a requirement for gradings after 6th Kyu
-
- Hakama
-
- Black Hakama are generally worn by Dan Grades and
by Ist Kyus who are assistant teachers, BUT the wearing of hakama must
also he officially authorised by Mr Spence, in consultation with club
senseis. This usually happens about 6 months after the grading. Blue
hakama may be worn by women of any grade.
-
- Weapons
-
- Mr Spence will teach weapons incorporated into
the general Aikido training, as was Mr Mucha's original practice. In
recent years Mr Mucha had introduced new Weapons training and syllabus,
separate to the tai-jutsu training, and Mr Smalley will continue to
teach this syllabus at Sunday weapons courses, and at the weapons practise.
that generally takes place at Chorley on the Saturday afternoon before
a Sunday course
-
- Membership
-
- It was decided that all new beginners will become
honorary members of the Aikikai for their first month of training. At
the end of this month, the membership fee for the remaining months of
the year becomes due. Mike Lloyd continues to handle membership fees
and insurance, but books can now be stamped in local clubs, when the
stamps are available.

- Coaching
-
- Club senseis will liaise with Sue Baird regarding
sending students onBAB coaching courses when they become eligible
