Club Welfare Officers
-
A club which takes children and young people up to the age of 18 must nominate a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) who will advise and ensure that Safeguarding is being adhered to in the Club
- The Club Welfare Officer must have a CRB Check promptly
- Club Welfare Officers should review the new BAB 2010 policy and provide a checklist to the Child Protection Officer (Jan-2010). The Support Pack is on the BAB website
- The Club Welfare Officer must attend a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ workshop accredited by Sportscoach UK (3 hours). See below
The CWO role is set out in the BAB Child Protection Policy Appendix 7
Club Welfare Officers(CWO) can contact their Association's Child Protection Officer to request the DVD and booklet if they haven't received one but if you can access the BAB website this is all downloadable.
The BAB Support Pack designed for Club Welfare Officers is accessed from the BAB's download area. Details of the Training and Video clips are also on the BAB website. For new CWOs you must complete the Support pack's checklist and return this to the Child Protection Officer of the Aikikai within 3 months of taking your role.
Club Welfare Officers should ensure their contact details are known in their club and on the Club's website and BAB's website for their club. Appendix 10 BAB Policy refers to a Club Information Sheet for details which should be made available to parents of young people and children {The Aikikai's variant can be viewed here CP-2 or Download Word version.} Some Clubs make this part of an Information booklet as a Welcome to the Club.
A requirement for your role is you attend the Sports Coach UK Safeguarding Children workshop – and renew this every 3 years. This is a nationally recognised workshop covering the basics of safeguarding. See www.sportscoachuk.org or directly to their workshop page. If the course is not one organised by the BAB then to be accreditated by them is important as its shows on their database. A copy of the course certificate should be sent to the BAB Coach Admin Officer and copy to our Association CLO - Sue Baird asking for it to be accredited.
