Registration with the British Aikido Board (National Governing Body) (BAB) – New & Renewals
The Aikikai moved over to the online BAB returns in Summer 2023. Paper "Blue Slips" are no longer issued to Club Leaders via the postal system. All renewals and new memberships are now sent direct from the BAB to the individual member via email.
Details of any new members should be submitted to the Membership Secretary by Club Leaders on or before the 10th of the following month using Form INS2. For example details supplied from Club for the month of March must be lodged with the Membership Secretary by 10th April (The month immediately following). Nil returns are needed if there nothing to send in.
As the BAB Registration certificates are delivered via email direct to the member it is very important that the email address supplied on the INS2 form is correct. In the event that a member does not have an email address the Club email address may be used but comes with the need to validate with the BAB
BAB Membership Registration fee is currently £10 per annum. The renewal fee is collected with the LA Membership in January.
Renewals will continue to be processed automatically for all paid up members in the month prior to their renewal date, to ensure continuity of registration and its insurance cover.
New membership / renewals will be processed by the Membership Secretary as soon as possible after the 10th of the month following the monthly return and submitted online to the BAB.
As the BAB confirmation is sent direct to the individual member it is important that Club Leaders ensure that email addresses provided are correct and inform us if a member changes their email address to ensure safe receipt of their BAB membership certificates and also to keep the MailChimp distribution list up to date.
If there are other changes to the information originally supplied this should be sent to the Membership Secretary using Form INS2
New members and any members being renewed via the online system for the first time will be asked by the BAB to validate their details held by the BAB as a one off exercise. Members should remember the password they set up on the BAB website as this forms part of their log-in which can be used to access other BAB services.
When a member is validating their details, they can record up to 4 Clubs on their BAB record. For most people you will only add one club. Members should not list any Clubs they occasionally visit on their record.
When a member has validated their details the Club Leaders, for all Clubs they have registered on their record, will receive an email from the BAB confirming their member has validated their details with the BAB.
Club Leaders will receive, from our Membership Secretary, a monthly return of new and renewed blue slips providing the BAB certificate number and expiry date and a link to access and print/save the BAB certificates for their Club Members following submission to the BAB.
New members who join Lancashire Aikikai will continue to have their "Blue Books" posted to the Club Leaders. The need to print the BAB certificate falls to the members not the Club unless circumstances dictate this.
If a member moves, changes: name, email address etc they should log-in to their BAB account & update their record (and tell their Club)
Our Members should not join the BAB via their online Facility. The LA when making the BAB returns enter name, email address, Student - Adult/Student – Under 18/Non-Qualified Coach/Coach, and issue date.
Process for New Members and Renewals
Club Leaders should provide monthly details of any new members using Form INS2, Explanation of form to Membership Secretary on or before 10th of the month.
Note: As the BAB certificates are delivered via email direct to the member it is very important that the email address supplied on the INS2 form is correct. In the event that a member does not have an email address the Club email address may be used.
Renewals for fully paid up members will continue to be automatically processed in the month prior to their renewal date.
Note: Example 1: member renewal date of 16 February 2024 will be processed on the return for the month of January 2024 and submitted to BAB after 10 February 2024 to ensure continuity of their Registration.
Example 2: member renewal date of 6 February 2024 will be processed on the month of January 2024 return (provided they a paid up LA members for the new year) and submitted to BAB after 10th February 2024 to ensure continuity of their Registration.
New membership and renewals will be processed by the Membership Secretary on or around 10th off each month for the previous month details and submitted online to the BAB

The Membership Secretary will forward a Monthly Return to Club Leaders of new and renewed membership which will include the members name, membership number, expiry date, and a link to access and print/save the BAB certificate.
Members should check their details held by the BAB from time to time and alter them if wrong. When a Member updates their BAB record and the relevant club is identified as connected with the member the Club Leader gets a email from the BAB. Clubs need to send these changes onto their official who handles their Club Admin to update the LA..
LA provide to the BAB name, email address, Student - Adult/Student – Under 18/Non-Qualified Coach/Coach, and issue date.
There is a BAB web App. through which you can change details.

BAB Mandatory Fields:- Association, First Name, Surname, DOB, Post code, Email. These are requested in the personal member's validation process for the "blue" or "green" slips.
